i discovered a book that was full of long span buildings, many of them airports. i found it useful and recommend it. Wilkinson, Chris, Supersheds, Butterworth Architecture, Oxford, 1996.
i Have extracted some images i found interesting and relevant to my pictorial analysis of Southern Cross Station
although the entire structure has not been captured in the photograph, one can clearly identify that it is a long span building, employing the use of advanced construction technologies.
Primary spine trusses run north-south above each alternative platform support arches at four metre centres spanning in the east-west direction up to 40 metres.
The structural system forms a web, much like TREE and works in tention and compression to support the structural load.
